Gross-to-net salaries
The most-searched salary amounts, pre-computed to the cent.
Net to gross
Which gross salary to negotiate for a target take-home.
A real salary calculator, not an average rate
The gross-to-net salary calculator applies each deduction line by line — federal income tax by filing status (single, married filing jointly, head of household), FICA (Social Security and Medicare), and state income tax where it applies — with verified parameters. You get your take-home pay, the detail of every line, and the effective deduction rate.
The conversion works both ways: the paycheck calculator finds by bisection the exact gross salary to negotiate for a target take-home amount — to the cent, verified by running the result back through the engine.
For the most-searched amounts, the salary pages show the pre-computed result on load — no script required — with the context quick calculators miss: position vs the federal minimum wage and median wage, share of gross going to deductions, and nearby amounts.
Verified, sourced and dated rates
Rates verified on 10/3/2026 — official sources
Every calculation parameter — federal brackets, standard deduction, FICA rates and caps, state tax tables — lives in a versioned file with its official source (IRS, state revenue departments) and verification date. An audit blocks publication if a source is missing or a check is older than twelve months, and each salary page is recomputed at build time: if the HTML diverges from the engine, deployment fails. Full details on the methodology page.
All calculations run in your browser: no amount you enter is sent to a server — that is also what makes conversions instant.
What the US calculator covers — and what it leaves out
On the withholding side, the engine applies the progressive federal brackets for your filing status after the standard deduction, Social Security up to the annual wage base, Medicare on all wages — plus the Additional Medicare withholding above its statutory thresholds — then the state income tax of the selected state and its payroll taxes where they exist (California SDI, WA Cares). Every line appears in the breakdown table, with its rate, base and amount.
Just as important, what is not computed: local income taxes (New York City and others), refundable credits like EITC or the Child Tax Credit, itemized deductions, and employer-specific pre-tax benefits such as 401(k) deferrals or health premiums. These are documented limits, spelled out on the methodology page — not fine print.
One site, one country at a time
NetWage is built to cover several countries: on your first visit, the geo detection points you to the rules of your country, and the « Rules » switcher in the header lets you pick the calculation country yourself — your choice is remembered and always overrides the automatic detection.
Each market opens only after its parameters are verified on the local official sources and cross-checked against that country's official calculators — never on approximate rates.
Go deeper: the guides
Beyond the calculators, our guides explain the mechanics behind the numbers: reading a pay stub line by line, how FICA works and what a 401(k) does to take-home pay — with examples computed by the same engine.
Frequently asked questions
Is the take-home pay calculation accurate?
The engine is cross-checked against official sources — IRS publications and state revenue departments — before any parameter is published. Residual differences come from employer-specific benefits (401(k), health insurance premiums) which vary by plan and are out of scope.
Is the salary I enter sent to a server?
No. Every calculation runs locally in your browser; nothing is transmitted or stored. Only your country choice and advertising preference are remembered — details are on the Privacy page.
Why does my actual paycheck differ from the result?
The most common gaps come from pre-tax deductions (retirement contributions, health premiums), state and local taxes, and bonuses — items outside the calculator scope. The Methodology page lists exactly what is included.
Which states does the calculator cover?
Ten states are parameterized — Texas, California, New York, Florida, Washington, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and Colorado — including no-income-tax states and state payroll taxes (California SDI, WA Cares). Other states are not published rather than published approximate.
How often are the rates updated?
Federal brackets, FICA caps and state tables follow an annual publication cycle — we re-verify each parameter on its official source when the new tables land, and an audit blocks any verification older than twelve months. The most recent verification date is shown as a badge on every page.
